Fruits Make You Fat
Just the sentence alone is ridiculous. I mean, just read it a few times and you’ll see just how silly it really is. Fruits make you fat…lol. The reason some people make this claim is that fruits contain a sugar called fructose. Many claim that fructose can make you fat. That is simply not true. What fructose does is that it keeps the liver full (which keeps you feeling full) and replaces fat molecules within the liver and so that replaced fat is released into the bloodstream. Fruits don’t make you fat; eating too many calories from junk food makes you fat. Fruits on the other hand:
• On average contain less than 100 calories per serving
• Contain no fat
• Are packed with vitamins and minerals
• Contain phytochemicals that have been shown to improve overall health, fight cancer, and aid in weight loss
• Contain fiber that helps keep you feeling satiated, keep your digestive system stay healthy and regular, lower blood pressure, and improve heart function
Eating Carbs at Night Makes You Fat
Again, eating more calories than you burn makes you fat, not carbohydrates. The reason many people feel that eating carbohydrates makes them fat is that carbohydrates soak up water. Just think of a piece of toast soaked in milk or water; it bloats and gets bigger and heavier. That piece of toast will do exactly the same thing inside our bodies; it will absorb water and expand making it look like we’re gaining weight. The truth is carbohydrates before sleep can be beneficial because they increase levels of serotonin; a brain chemical that helps us falls asleep and feel happy. Also, carbohydrates help maintain our muscles from being broken down while we sleep.
Whole Eggs are Bad for You
Many bodybuilders ditch the egg yolks and only eat the egg whites and many normal people avoid eggs all together from fearing high cholesterol or weight gain. The truth is the yellow part of the egg is the most nourishing part. It contains high levels of beneficial fats and good cholesterol, half the protein, and all of the egg’s vitamins A, E and D. The beneficial fats and the good cholesterol in eggs will not contribute to your body’s cholesterol levels as much as your genetics or as much as eating lots of saturated fats and trans-fats. Recent studies have even shown that having eggs for breakfast improves the body’s metabolism and helps you burn more calories and lose more fat. The bottom line is that eggs are extremely good for you, eat them.
Milk Makes You Fat
This is getting old isn’t it? Unless you have lactose intolerance or severe gas and bloating due to drinking milk, then you should be drinking your milk. Milk contains more calcium than any other food source. Did you know that people who increase their calcium intake lose up to 50% more weight than people who don’t get enough calcium? Milk is also full of valuable proteins in the form of whey and casein which help preserve muscle and keep you full throughout the day.
Nothing annoys me more than when someone asks me something like “will this make me fat?” It doesn’t matter what the food is, nothing on its own makes you fat. Excess calories from unhealthy food choices make you fat. Please always keep this fact in mind when trying to change the way you eat. So many people fall into the trap of cutting out foods they like because “it makes them fat.” As humans we are programmed to want what we can’t or should not have. Therefore, as soon as you tell yourself that you can’t have something, you will only want it more. Eat whole, raw foods, fresh fruits and vegetables, lean meats, eggs and dairy, healthy fats like olive and fish oil and you will not go wrong.
